M11 drafting

read the title, lol i have done almost none of that, i missed last weeks cause of black-out i missed this weeks cause of work/traffic. so i wonder if ill ever get one of these in, i did do a 6-man team draft on saturday and that was odd. here is what i learned from that.'

1) baneslayer is still not worth splashing for, she wins zero games.
2) ice cage is actually playable in this format, not allot of good equip and also all the spells that target you want them to waste.
3) red is unplayable in this format, did you guys see white in ROE, red in m11 is actually worse the creatures are poor extremely poor the only reason to draft a red card is to splash, there are almost no bombs and the removal is terrible, i think there are 4 total good red cards. bolt, fireball, thunder strike, chandra; thats it and chandra need 2 red to play so she's a little hard to splash.
4) white is bomby but doesn't do well in removal department.
5) blue likes counterspells, and you need to draft them this time.
6) the combat tricks are all over the place and that is why the tricks are almost removal.

i have only drafted white and blue so far so i really know nothing about black and green, i have watched people draft red and wondered about there picks. Hopefully ill be drafting this friday but i will also try to remeber details about my wendsday draft as well so i can post them both. until next time, draft greedy and Win.

  1. Nearly everything you've said in this post is wrong.

    1) Yes, Baneslayer does win games. If you have enough fixing, you should definitely splash her.

    2) Your Ice Cage comment is accurate, but all the equipment in the set is good in limited. There aren't amny (and there shouldn't be), but you seem to claim that what is available isn't very good.

    3) Red is VERY playable in this format. There are plenty of bombs (Magma Phoenix, Fireball and Inferno Titan come immediately to mind). We all know about Lightning Bolt, but Chandra's Outrage is also very good. Pyroclasm? Yes, please. And there are enough playable red creatures that don't die to Pyroclasm. You could not have been less accurate.

    4) Condemn, Pacifism, Blinding Mage, Celestial Purge, Day of Judgment, Excommunicate, and two combat tricks (Mighty Leap and Safe Passage) would like to have a word with you. Removing creatures isn't necessary if they can't attack or block.

    5) Counterspells will never be as good in limited as they can be in constructed. It's easy to have exactly what you need in a constructed match. I would most likely not waste my time with a soft counter in limited. I'd take a cancel or a Flash Freeze if there's nothing else in the pack that can help me more (which is rare). You don't want to be reactive in limited because you can rarely afford to be.

    6) If feel like your statement supports the opposite conclusion. If combat tricks are everywhere, isn't it less likely that yours will succeed in removing a creature, since your opp will have them too?

  2. @ mafia well like I said this is my experience.

    1. baneslayer was ok to splash in m10 but now with so much baneslayer removal, (plummet and combust) she is actually harder to play. also its my experience that i have never won a math with her in any format, (taking her with mind control is winning with Mc not her) and no one on my team has ever won with her aswell, i also have never lost to her outside of standard.

    2. there is only 2 pieces of usaeable equip in this set, one is rare and the other is ok but its uncommon. sword of vegence is defintaly the only auto play equipment in this set. whispersilk cloak is ok but usally not played.

    3. magma phonix is a splashable card, not really abomb cause it can kill you. and fifreball is every color. infrno titan goes into the bad titan pile followed by frost and primevil in limited. the creatures in red are a sorry bunch of dorks that need help to win.

    4. white removal, i apoligize to condem and day of judgemtn. but the other spells you named do not work. pacifism only works if they have no way to stop it in there deck, if they do its just as good as guard duty was in ROE. celetrial purge is picky it kills black stuff and if anyone is playing red they should already be losing, white is the best color in this format. blinding mage is a creature, creatures can be removal but are never classified as such. excommunictae was never good in limited the only thing this card does is time walk you a turn and maybe clear the way to win but usally it just ousts a guy for a turn and does nothing. mighty leap is ok for remving ice cages but thats it. and safe passage is a 3 costing for usally sometimes you can pull a fast one but i assume ur opponents know how to play.

    5. now i agree that counterspells are not good in limited but sometimes they help. i disagree with not being reactive, how do you think removal decks win, they sit back and kill all your threats and wait for you to run out steam and tehn they win, did you see my ROE decks?

    6. maybe but most of the tricks are not that good and you are playing the good ones i assume so your not passing them to your opponents.

  3. 2. If you have a Whispersilk Cloak (if you've seen it, you probably should have picked it), and you're not playing it, you're a terrible player. Like Baneslayer, it wins games. Period.

    3. All of the Titans are bombs in limited. Let me repeat that. ALL OF THE TITANS ARE BOMBS IN LIMITED. Certainly there's a bit of a heirarchy within the cycle, but they are all bombs.

    4. Pacifism is definitely better than guard duty. To compare the two is pretty ridiculous.

    5. Removal isn't reactive. Removal gets creatures out of your way so you can attack. Waiting to be able to counter a spell is reactive because it can only deal with what might cme down the pike, rather than what's already there.

    6. You shouldn't make assumptions about your opponents until you're able to more accurately assess your own skills. The content of this article shows that you are lacking.
